The Niagara Falls Illumination Board has approved the illumination of the American & Canadian Falls on May l0th to honour World Lupus Day.
Niagara Falls (American, Bridal Veil and the Canadian Horseshoe) will be illuminated in the Canadian lupus colours of red/white during the following times:
9:l5 – 9:30 PM
10:15 – 10:30 PM
Illumination of Niagara Falls began 144 years ago to honour the visit of the Prince of Wales. On May l0th, the Niagara Falls Illumination Board will honour the five million people who have been diagnosed with lupus. This initiative will shed light upon the ‘least known major disease – lupus’.
Lupus Foundation of Ontario would like to acknowledge the special contribution of Mr. Scott Whitwell, Niagara Parks Commission, who arranged this illumination on our behalf.

May is Lupus Awareness Month! On behalf of the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA), we invite you to join us and Band Together for Lupus Awareness to improve the understanding of lupus, an unpredictable and sometimes fatal autoimmune disease that affects millions of people.
The LFA has many activities taking place nationwide throughout the month of May to raise awareness of lupus, and encourage others to do the same. We have developed a number of tools that are ready for your use and free of charge to support you in your own awareness efforts.
There are many ways you can Band Together for Lupus Awareness:
- Distribute purple wristbands to friends (available for sale at www.shoplupus.org)
- On World Lupus Day on May 10th, tell 10 people about lupus and ask them to give $10 to the LFA by texting LUPUS to 80888; contributions will help the LFA raise awareness, expand education programs, and advance research. Click here for more details
- Post a Web banner on your Web site or blog linking to www.lupus.org or Lupus Awareness Month Web site
- Sign the World Lupus Day Awareness Pledge and commit to doing at least one thing to raise awareness this May
