Lupus Alert
As the world prepares to mark the ninth World Lupus Day observance on 10 May 2012, we are pleased to inform you about the various activities organised by Lupus Alert to increase public awareness and understanding of Lupus. Activities have already started since the beginning of May:
1. College students visited the Lupus Alert Drop-In Centre / Library to learn more about Lupus and how it affects young people.
2. On Sunday 6th May an educational programme has brought together a panel of Lupus patients and their families with a team of basket ball players from the Malherbes Harlems Club to discuss the various aspects of Lupus, how it affects the daily life of a Lupus patient and how to make this painful and misunderstood disease better known to the public.
3. A basket ball match will be played between the Malherbes Harlems Basket Ball Club and players from Le Mauricia College where two students are Lupus sufferers.
4. Presentation of the World Lupus Day 2012 poster to the media. The posters are already displayed in all public hospitals, private clinics, secondary and tertiary institutions...etc
5. Several radio and tv programmes with doctors and Lupus patients have been organised.
6. A couple from Madagascar has also join the Lupus Alert team for Lupus awareness in Mauritius and Madagascar.
7. As in previous years, we have invited as many people as possible to text or email a message on the 10th of May to keep the awareness of Lupus ongoing.
8. Lupus Alert 2000 - 2012: A slide show of its activities and exceptional achievments are being shown to all visitors at the Lupus Alert Drop-In / Library Centre
9. Lupus Alert is proud to inform all Lupus Groups around the World that for her extraordinary work in disease awareness and disease advocacy Dalilah Kalla, a lupus patient from Mauritius, was awarded the 2011 Junior Chamber International Outstanding Young Person of Mauritius and is among the 2011 Junior Chamber International Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP Program) recipient in the category of Humanitarian and/or Voluntary Leadership. Past recipients of these JCI National Awards include such well known personalities as Orson Welles, Howard Hughes, Nelson Rockefeller, John F.Kennedy, Henry Kissinger, and many more.
